2. Can you explain what The Vine Strategy Group is?
The Vine Strategy Group is the first independent advisory group dedicated to focus exclusively on the wine industry, combining deep industry knowledge with a proven approach to sustainability.
Unlike traditional consultants, we bring together a network of specialised experts and tools to provide hands-on, tailored support to wine businesses. By offering an integrated suite of services, we align sustainability with our client’s business objectives, by making them practical, cost effective and scalable.
3. What inspired you to create The Vine Strategy Group?
The idea for creating The Vine Strategy Group emerged during my time at the Sustainable Wine Roundtable, where I had the opportunity to engage with hundreds of wine businesses across the supply chain. This experience gave me a deep understanding of the challenges businesses face when trying to balance profitability and sustainability.
I realised there was a significant lack of coordination between the expertise and tools available to address these challenges effectively. Many businesses were eager to act but often overwhelmed by the complexity of sustainability, uncertain about where to start, or unable to access the specialised support they needed in a cohesive way. This insight inspired me to create a dedicated consultancy that bridges this gap.
5. What are the main components to The Vine Strategy Group?
The Vine Strategy Group is built around four key components: customers, specialisation, services, and partnerships.
Our customers include producers, retailers, importers, and associations, representing the diversity of the wine supply chain. We tailor our approach to the unique needs of each client, ensuring that our support drives meaningful results.
Our specialisation lies in sustainability for the wine industry. This focus allows us to provide expert guidance that helps businesses align their sustainability goals with long-term commercial success.
Our services are designed to support clients at every stage of their sustainability journey. These include initial assessments and roadmaps to prioritise actionable next steps, strategy development and reporting to implement and track progress, communication and marketing to share their sustainability story effectively, and education and training to empower teams with the skills and knowledge to lead change.
Finally, our partnerships enable us to deliver integrated solutions. We collaborate with WinePilot, Vidacycle, and Sustainable Wine Solutions, ensuring our clients benefit from a coordinated approach.
6. Why is the mission for sustainability so important to The Vine Strategy Group?
The wine industry is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Rising temperatures and extreme weather patterns are already disrupting grape growing and production. At the same time, the industry faces increasing regulatory pressures and growing consumer expectations to take responsibility for its environmental and social impact. These challenges are
compounded by the highly fragmented nature of the industry, which makes it difficult to achieve coordinated action or adopt consistent sustainability standards.
For individual producers, the complexity of navigating sustainability—combined with limited resources, time, and expertise—means that progress often takes a backseat to day-to-day operational demands. Many feel overwhelmed by the multiplicity of tools, standards, and solutions available, which often address only isolated aspects of sustainability rather than providing holistic guidance.
The Vine Strategy Group exists to simplify this process. We help wine businesses understand and prioritise their sustainability challenges, providing them with tailored, integrated solutions that are practical, accessible, and designed specifically for the wine industry. Our mission is to empower businesses to take meaningful steps toward a sustainable future, enhancing their resilience, profitability, and ability to meet global environmental goals.
Sustainability isn’t just essential for the planet—it’s critical for the long-term success and viability of the wine industry. At The Vine Strategy Group, we ensure that wine businesses can rise to this challenge with confidence and clarity.
7. Can you tell us a little about sustainability in the wine industry and the future of it?
Sustainability in the wine industry goes beyond environmental impact—it encompasses social and economic responsibility as well. While climate change remains a significant challenge, with rising temperatures and extreme weather altering grape-growing regions, the future of sustainability is also about resilience and adaptation.
Producers are already exploring innovative solutions, from regenerative farming practices that restore soil health to advancements in low-carbon packaging and water efficiency. Importantly, sustainability efforts aren’t just about mitigating risks; they offer opportunities to improve quality, reduce costs, and meet growing consumer demand for responsible production.
In the future, we can expect technology to play a larger role, with precision agriculture, renewable energy solutions, and carbon footprint tracking becoming integral to operations. Collaboration will also be critical—both across regions and within supply chains—to establish shared standards, share resources, and drive meaningful change at scale.
The wine industry’s ability to thrive in the coming decades will depend on how it balances tradition with innovation. By embracing sustainable practices, businesses can not only protect their future but also position themselves as leaders in a world where environmental and social responsibility are increasingly valued. The future of sustainability in the wine industry is bright, but it requires proactive steps, collaboration, and an openness to change to fully realise its potential.
8. What do you envision for the future of The Vine Strategy Group?

We aim to expand our reach globally, refine our services to address emerging industry challenges, and foster greater collaboration across the wine supply chain to drive meaningful, collective action.
